The framework

Every indicator, and where it comes from

The array is four levels deep — a tile, the values or audiences inside it, the indicator classes attached to each, and the indicators inside those. This page holds the whole structure, and lets you assemble your own version of it. The published evidence-tile matrix shows both dimensions side by side.

01 The indicator database

Filter, then read the record

Every indicator in the Handbook is listed by default — 43 of them across 34 indicator classes. Narrow the list by tile, class or data source, and open a row to read the reasoning behind it, how it is calculated, and which sources can supply it.

Calculation has a published calculation in the Technical Appendix; Reasoning only is evidenced by its stated reasoning and source alone.

02 Build your framework

Assemble your own version of the array

Not every institution needs every indicator. Pick the ones that fit your mission and confirm to generate the framework — the tile, value and indicator class of each selection are kept.

03 Coverage

Where every entry comes from

The whole taxonomy is here, taken from the Handbook itself: the two tiles, the thirteen values and audiences, the 34 indicator classes, and the 43 indicators inside them. Every class carries at least one indicator.

Entries are transcribed, not paraphrased. The reasoning and the data sources are the Handbook's own words — Table 1 for the values tile, Table 2 for the audience tile. Calculation marks the 27 indicators that also carry a published calculation in the Technical Appendix; Reasoning only marks those evidenced by their stated reasoning and source alone.

Nothing on this page is inferred. Where the Handbook offers only a primary source the alternative sources are listed as they appear; where it gives no calculation, none is supplied. Indicators the Handbook marks as adaptable or substitutable remain so here.
